About the role:

We are looking for an experienced Transport Manager to oversee the efficient operation of our commercial fleet. This role involves line management of all commercial drivers across Gadsby’s, Maltby’s, Pharmacy home delivery and internal store distribution/postage services. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with UK transport legislation, vehicle maintenance schedules and health and safety requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing driver training, vehicle inspections and health and safety compliance to ensure all drivers operate safely and efficiently.
  • Managing fleet maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and ensure all vehicles remain licensed, tested and legally compliant.
  • Ensuring effective use of operating systems and communication devices to optimise fleet performance.
  • Monitoring fleet costs, supplier contracts, and maintenance agreements to achieve cost reductions and maximise efficiency.
  • Working with the Operational Excellence Manager to develop fleet optimisation strategies and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implementing route planning and optimisation strategies across Maltby’s warehouse and Gadsby’s Bakery to enhance service delivery.

About You

We’re looking for a highly organised and proactive leader with a strong understanding of UK transport legislation, vehicle compliance and fleet operations. You’ll have experience managing commercial drivers and transport assets while balancing operational demands with strategic planning.

You will also have:

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle a varied and busy workload.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to prioritise tasks, work independently, and maintain a professional and approachable manner.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and a focus on meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Office 365, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • A full UK driving licence.
